Indictments against Comey and James dismissed because 3rd place runner up in Miss Colorado USA pageant invalidly appointed

Remember, we had to get rid of DEI because we’re supposed to be a Meritocracy ™:
A federal judge dismissed the indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday.
The judge found that the appointment of interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan in Alexandria, Virginia, was invalid.
Trump handpicked Halligan for the role amid increasing pressure to bring criminal cases against his political enemies, including Comey and James.
I believe the dismissals are without prejudice, so the indictments can be pursued again, but the mind-boggling incompetence of various people Working Towards the Donald is something to behold.
ETA: A couple of commenters have already pointed out that a new indictment of Comey would now fall outside the statute of limitations, at least until John Roberts can use the fuhrerprinzip to magically revivify it (I don’t think Roberts would actually do this though. A man’s got to have a code).
ETA2: Apparently there’s some sort of saving statute that gives the government six months to re-file anyway.
I think the fundamental legal principle here is that all of this is extremely stupid.
