There’s been some bad baserunning blunders in these playoffs — most notably Bo Bichette wandering toward second on an (admittedly terrible) strike three call and getting picked off — but I don’t think this is one of them. If you thought that looked like a hit off the bat you weren’t wrong:
Believe it or not, Giménez's ball had an expected batting average of .710. Classic bloop, read as such by both runners. Great read by Kiké, great jump, slightly bad baserunning, Game Seven.

Barger could have read it a little more quickly, I guess. but given how unexpectedly the ball drifted toward centre and that he was the tying run he was just kind of trapped in no-man’s land. Hernandez just made a great play. If there’s a goat for Toronto in that inning, it’s Clement. Facing a starter coming into a major jam, he took a very weak cut at a first pitch in on his fists, wasting a critical out and making the situation more comfortable. Clement has had a great postseason in part by being aggressive, but the veteran starter and the Dodgers advance scouting got ahead of him at the wrong moment.
But, hey, Game 7s — we don’t get them often enough, and Babe Ruth is starting on three day’s rest against another Hall of Famer. Hopefully this will be a fitting cap to what has been a pretty great playoffs so far.
…it was bullshit that they kept letting Ohtani violate the strict between-inning time limits, but hey we all shine on:
As called on TVA Sports in French Canada:
