Can We Professors Indoctrinate Our Students?

Look, even if I wanted to turn my students into little commies, they aren’t going to listen to me. It might be true that college graduates are more liberal than non-college graduates, but that did not used to be the case and if it is the truth today, professors have at most a small amount to do with it. What college does is throw people together who don’t usually meet and that’s the only time in their lives that happens to most people. Otherwise, it’s family/workplace/church and the first and third of those things rarely change and the second often does not. Not exposing young people to other thoughts is a big reason for pushing online education or Christian education or just not college at all–keep them under the propaganda thumb. In any case, we now have a very long academic paper demonstrated that liberal topics exist because of student demand for them, not professors pushing them on the students and that professors have effectively no impact on their student’s politics. If students are ready to hear what I have to say, I might influence them a bit to be more informed. I think it’s extremely unlikely I’ve ever turned a conservative into a labor leftist.
