You should smile more

Misogyny is the key to this whole thing, as I believe one of our commenters has been pointing out for awhile now:

. . . to add a couple of notes, newer LGM readers might not be aware that Karen Cassandra of Texas has been pointing out that misogyny remains respectable in a way that racism, even in the age of Trump, no longer is. Trump here is saying, I don’t respect you or your question — about survivors of sex trafficking! — because you are a woman, and your only job is to be pretty. That there’s essentially no reaction to this illustrates Karen’s point perfectly.

The other thing that I don’t want to pass over in silence here is that Trump just routinely utters total gibberish. Telling Collins that she doesn’t smile because she knows she’s lying is nonsensical. The two things either have nothing to do with each other, or if you want to play amateur psychologist the cliche is that smiling is sometimes a nervous tic to hide lying. So what Trump is saying is nonsensical on its face, but again this passes without notice, because what he says is so often completely nonsensical. If Biden said something this obviously innocent of any contact with reality Fox would talk about nothing else for two weeks straight. With Trump it’s nothing, as always, and with essentially all the establishment media, not just the right wing scream machine.
