Le Leak, c’est chic

Time for the GOP leak of the week, ho-hum.

Ted Cruz warned Donald Trump, his fellow Republican, that he would face a “bloodbath” in the November midterm elections if prices continued to rise, prompting the president to respond, “fuck you, Ted,” the US senator told donors, according to a secret recording of the private conversation obtained by Axios.

Let the record show that for once Dr. Strangeglove said what we’re all thinking. But the only interesting thing about the story is that it was an intentional leak by a Republican.

Frequent leaks are a natural feature of the modern GOP. The accidental sort, like adding an editor-in-chief to a Pentagon Signal chat, is caused by incompetence unadulterated by any nagging suspicions that you’re a clueless fuckhead. Intentional leaks by party insiders happen because the leaker thinks it will benefit them. They might not know exactly how, they might be completely wrong, but when a Republican acts, they act out of malign self-interest.

This, like the pervasive incompetence, is part of the natural evolution of white supremacy, American style. The bellowing about liberal corruption – intellectual, physical, moral, legal – is frenzied finger pointing. Respect, loyalty, empathy and so on are to be received, never given. Each member’s personal motto is Fuck you, I got mine, now gimme yours.

It is no wonder that the GOP is controlled by a shambling, ignorant, incontinent – not in that sense, the other one – pile of rage that’s falling apart before our eyes. But that’s the Republican ideal until the GOP finds something worse. Perhaps a pus-oozing choad that never stop screaming. Or a large centipede that has to communicate through a scribe.

If we’re lucky the stress of midterms will mean the gouging, biting and backstabbing become literal. And it is televised.
