Eliminationist rhetoric and the GOP

The second Bush administration was a catastrophic cavalcade of war crimes — something I was reminded of yesterday when I was treated to a camera shot of Condi Rice in the owners’ box at the Broncos’ game — but it does deserve credit for actually doing some pushback against anti-Muslim rhetoric in the wake of 9/11.

24 years later, the Trump administration has nothing to say about any of the following, except to lend it it’s not so subtle support:

US Rep. Randy Fine tweet (so it’s him saying his words are about ordinary Muslims):

Rep. Fine on How to Deal with Mainstream Muslims: “I don’t know how you make peace with those who seek your destruction, I think you destroy them first.”

Sen. Tommy Tuberville: “We must IMMEDIATELY BAN all ISLAM immigrants and DEPORT every single Islamist who is living among us just waiting to attack.”

NYC Councilwoman Vickie Paladino: “We’re in the midst of a global jihad the likes of which the world has never seen, and we cannot ignore it.

We need to take very seriously the need to begin the expulsion of Muslims from western nations, or at the very least the severe sanction of them within western borders.

The administration needs to begin developing a formal legal framework for the denaturalization process and get it over with before we end up with another 9/11 or worse. Enough is enough.”

Now it’s a fair point that jihadist Islam is fundamentally incompatible with liberal democracy, but you know what else is also fundamentally incompatible with liberal democracy? Ethno-nationalist Christofascism. And the difference between these two things is that the political influence of jihadist Islam in America is less than zero, while ethno-nationalist Christofascism is now practically the unofficial religion of the the fully Trumpified Republican party. And uncontested statements like those quoted above from Republican elected officials just underline that reality.
