A Couple of Thoughts on the National Security Strategy

Stephen Miller is afraid of the ravening hordes and now has the power to cower from them.

Travelers visiting the United States from countries like Britain, France, Germany and South Korea could soon have to undergo a review of up to five years of their social media history, according to a proposal filed on Tuesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. (NYT)

NSS, p. 3: We want to protect this country, its people, its territory, its economy, and its way of life from military attack and hostile foreign influence, whether espionage, predatory trade practices, drug and human trafficking, destructive propaganda and influence operations, cultural subversion, or any other threat to our nation.

Even Europe is not pure enough.

The larger issues facing Europe include activities of the European Union and other transnational bodies that undermine political liberty and sovereignty, migration policies that are transforming the continent and creating strife, censorship of free speech and suppression of political opposition, cratering birthrates, and loss of national identities and self-confidence. (NSS, p. 25)

The Western Hemisphere must be protected.

We will deny non-Hemispheric competitors the ability to position forces or other threatening capabilities, or to own or control strategically vital assets, in our Hemisphere. (NSS, p. 15)

All of this is paranoid raving of someone who, for whatever reason, is unable to see anyone but white cishet men as fully human. We must oppose these efforts to force the country into his mental frame.

I’ve been trying to write something about the National Security Strategy, and it’s almost impossible. I see some people writing about it like they wrote about Obama’s or Bush’s National Security Strategies, and all I can think is “NO.” It is not a strategy, but a collected set of outbursts from ignorant and fearful people.

The NSS is inconsistent within itself, but what is consistent is the insistence on an old hegemony. The world has moved on, and the Trumpies don’t like it. Further, they want to force Europe in particular into their fascist way of life.

They have the power to put these ideas into practice, as in those exclusionary border ideas they want to enact.

There are so many wrong-headed ideas and so many internal conflicts within the NSS that it’s hard to know where to focus. But let’s continue with the Western Hemisphere.

What Miller wants to change is the immigration of people from other countries in the hemisphere to the United States. The prescription is economic colonialism of the type that produced the problems leading to people’s need to leave their countries.  I will not comment in this post on the gender issues in that Chiquita Banana logo.

We must vet those civilizationally erased Europeans, lest they carry their contagion to us. And everyone else, well!

There’s so much more in the NSS! Why, for example, do they describe China clearly but refuse to name it?

Why do they say nothing about nuclear deterrence?

They must not have used ChatGPT, or it would have been less incoherent.
