Will Democrats Govern by Democratic Principles?

If you are Abigail Spanberger and you have the opportunity to sign a bill repealing Virginia’s right to work law that would give labor organizing and thus the Democratic Party a huge boon, the answer is evidently no.
Democratic State Senator Jennifer Carroll Foy of Prince William County introduced a bill to repeal provisions in Virginia’s right-to-work law.
The right-to-work law allows workers to opt out of union dues and membership.
7News reached out to every Virginia lawmaker in Northern Virginia and surrounding counties to see if they support Carroll Foy’s bill.
“I look forward to making collective bargaining available to all state and local government employees and giving Virginia private sector workers better tools to allow them to earn a fair living,” Democratic State Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell told 7News.
Great, unless you are Spanberger!
“Governor-elect Spanberger believes the number-one job of the Governor of Virginia is to strengthen the Commonwealth’s economy and attract new jobs,” Governor-elect Spanberger’s spokesperson told 7News Reporter Nick Minock on Wednesday. “As she made clear on the campaign trail, she does not support repealing the current statute. As she prepares to take office, Governor-elect Spanberger will be focused on getting things done for Virginia workers, bringing new businesses to Virginia, and making sure parents can afford to live here in Virginia to take advantage of job opportunities.”
Nothing screams centrist Democrat like rejecting the easy lay-up that could build your party so you can appeal to moderates. It’s even better when you can’t run for reelection. At least if Spanberger has presidential ambitions, she’s given all the other candidates an enormous cudgel to use against her.
