Stephen Miller’s fascist vision and America’s feckless elites

Here’s a clip of Stephen Miller glazing his Lord God in the Oval Office, as Trump signs an executive order to designate “Antifa” a terrorist organization.
It says something about something that until I watched this clip I didn’t know how “Antifa” is pronounced, which seems ironic given that I’m probably a member without even being aware of it. That’s because “Antifa” is, as far as I can tell, an imaginary entity that’s taking the place of the Communist Party during the Red Scare, with again the critical difference that there actually was such a thing that actually existed at the time.
What “Antifa” means when put through the universal Trumpian translator is “an enemy of the state,” and “an enemy of the state” means “someone who opposes Donald Trump.”
Which makes for example Jim “Stretch” Comey a member of Antifa. A friend writes, after duly deploring the larger political effects of the POTUS abusing the DOJ to punish his political enemies:
That said, fuck Jim Comey. He more than anybody embodies the feckless elite response to Trump that has us in our current situation. I will go to my grave believing Hillary would have won in 2016 if he had kept his damn mouth shut, and all because he didn’t want to spend a day answering uncomfortable questions from Jason Chafetz in January 2017 once it got leaked from the NY field office.
“Feckless elite response” is exactly right. Maybe a few more abusive prosecutions of this type — John Bolton, Merrick Garland, hey why not Obama? — will encourage the others to wake up from their endless reverie, in which politics is just an amusing game, and the consequences of collaborating with right wing authoritarianism are for other people.
