Sports can make you feel good? Sometimes even the craziest propositions can come true:

The hangover from a goal-line interception more than a decade ago finally lifted from Seahawks nation Sunday, replaced instead by a foreign feeling that, sometimes, good things do happen to fans of Seattle sports.

From Pioneer Square to Kingston to far-flung corners of Seahawks fandom, the exuberance of victory popped at the final whistle, as if from a confetti cannon, spilling into the streets to claim the celebration that was denied 11 years ago.

In West Seattle, children whooped from their porches. In Lower Queen Anne, people yelled from their windows. In the University District, as the game ended, people began spilling out of crowded pubs.

Psyched fans screamed in call and response: “SEA!” “HAWKS!”

And anywhere there was open air, fireworks cracked in the sky.

This is the third championship team I’ve cheered for in more than 40 years of conscious fandom, and the first one what was not considered a top contender prior to the season. But there was nothing fluky about it — this was a genuinely great team, one of the most complete in NFL history:

The top teams by DVOA since 1978, including playoffs. 1991 Washington: 53.9% 1985 Bears: 52.3% 2007 Patriots: 51.0% 2025 SEAHAWKS: 46.4% 1989 49ers: 45.1% 1996 Packers: 44.9% (ESPN number may be slightly off, being fixed right now.) www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/…

Just a masterful job by John Schneider, with the hiring of Mike Macdonald being a particularly important decision. I feel really good for Sam Darnold too — while today he “just” avoided mistakes and made the plays he needed to, it shouldn’t be forgotten that they once because of him in the conference championship.

It’s also great knowing that the worst people in the world are still mad about everything.

This is really what separates Trump from Stephen Miller. He'll make it 11/14ths of the way through the 14 words and then stop to complain about Mike Tirico.
