Tainted love

Here’s Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer, who is (was?) on the short list of likely Democratic presidential nominees in 2028, receiving a warm and loving embrace from Donald Trump upon Trump’s arrival in Michigan today.
This is so nonsensical it’s hard to know where to begin. Whitmer is term-limited as a governor, so I suppose she thinks playing kissy-face with Donald Fucking Trump will play with the five remaining centrist pundits writing for national publications in regard to the 2028 presidential race, but if she does her political instinct meter has snapped in half.
No Republican EVER does anything like this, and for good reason. At the precise moment that rage against the Trumpist machine is reaching incandescent levels all across America, Democratic governors like Whitmer, Newsom, and Polis are apparently astonishingly tone-deaf.
Meanwhile Obergruppenfuhrer Miller is out there arguing that maybe JB Pritzker is guilty of criminal sedition for calling for mass protests against the Trump administration:
“Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption, but I am now,” Pritzker said, stressing the party “must castigate them on the soapbox and then punish them at the ballot box.”
In response, Miller cited assassination attempts and threats against Trump and said “the destruction of property sits directly adjacent to attacks on humans.”
“His comments, if nothing else, could be construed as inciting violence,” Miller said when a reporter asked about Pritzker’s remarks. “This war that Democrat governors and mayors are waging against federal law enforcement. I mean, this is nullificationist behavior. This is secessionist behavior.”
In the current political situation, bipartisan gestures by Democrats are monuments to almost indescribable cluelessness.
It’s too bad, because there was a lot to like about Whitmer as a presidential candidate, but there is a test right now and she and some other Democratic “leaders” are failing it badly.
