Washington Post publishes revenge porn on behalf of Republican operative
I won’t link to the above story for what I hope are very obvious reasons, but I will quote its most disgraceful paragraoh:
This is absolutely inexcusable on a number of levels:
- Gibson did nothing wrong. There isn’t even a hint of a “hypocrisy” angle, nothing — it’s just revealing something about someone’s consensual sex life for entirely prurient purposes.
- The only even arguably newsworthy thing here — the identity of the degenerate scumbag Republican operative who provided the story — is the only thing the Post didn’t publish. There is no remotely defensible reason for providing this person anonymity.
- Republicans using revenge porn as part of an effort to create a majority to force women to carry pregnancies to term is really on-the-nose.
- The media focusing on a fake scandal about a female Democratic candidate in an election where access to legal abortion is at stake is a story we’ve seen before, I can’t say I liked how that turned out either.
