Charlie Chaplin is if anything an underrated genius and that was especially true in the mid 20th century when he became a bit forgotten. Even a lot of the Old Hollywood Revival types like Peter Bogdanovich (eyeroll) were a lot more interested in Manly Directors like Welles and Hawks than they were with the living silent legends. So Chaplin being honored by the French government at Cannes in 1971 was a really important moment and here is footage of that.
