That’s what friends are for

What a cozy little world we live in:
Hey, let’s see what the University of California’s law school has done over the past decade or so in regard to their most infamous employee (Lower number is base compensation; higher is total compensation, with the difference consisting largely of a “summer research grant,” which is what law professors are paid to encourage us to do the 40% of our job that is supposed to consist of research. I imagine it will come as a surprise to a lot of academics that getting paid extra to do research is a thing in our cozy little corner of academia):
2010 | Berkeley | JOHN CHOON | YOO | PROFESSOR-LAW SCHOOL SCALE | 290,950.57 | 219,999.96 | 0.00 |
2021 | Berkeley | JOHN | YOO | PROF-AY-LAW | 422,884.00 | 333,500.00 | 0.00 |
The moral of this story, the moral of this song, is that crime pays, and very well indeed.
Also, academic freedom isn’t free. Or something.
