NFL draft thread

The first round of the NFL draft is tonight, which creates all kinds of wagering opportunities for you degenerates who can’t wait for the return of actual games.
Some general observations:
(1) I just don’t think there’s any way to make anything more than an educated guess when you’re reaching for a franchise QB. There are so many variables in play, the biggest one being that there’s no way to determine how somebody at that position is going to handle the huge jump in the level of competition. The windows are so much smaller, the pocket pressure is so much harder to elude, etc. etc. All you can do is take a guy who looks like he has the physical tools and has excelled at the college level and pray it will translate.
(2) Speaking of which, I would NEVER take a guy who is an inaccurate passer at the college level. Yeah Josh Allen, but you know what Josh Allen is? Drawing an inside straight, or maybe more like two inside straights on consecutive hands. I don’t think you can find another case like that. Allen’s accuracy was erratic at best in college, and in his first two NFL seasons, but then some QB guru or maybe Marianne Williamson’s crystals (for you sportsball haters, check out this impossible to parody Jacobin piece, insisting that Williamson be taken seriously be progressives as a real alternative to Centrist Neoliberal Joe Biden) somehow transformed him into a an excellent passer, thus handing Buffalo a monster dual threat athlete at the most important position on the field. Prediction: it’s going to take a lot of busts before NFL front offices realize that hoping for a similar transformation of this year’s great athlete who don’t throw so good is not a wise gamble.
(3) Another guy I would never take is somebody who showed up out of shape for pro days/workouts BEFORE he was drafted. I mean unless there’s some incredibly compelling circumstance, like his mom died a month ago or something. Another thing you can never predict is how is somebody going to react after they have their $20 million guaranteed or whatever. But if the guy is seriously slacking BEFORE he has any guaranteed money? No thanks.
