“Legacy cartoon” is one of the safest tenured sinecures among papers who still publish them — what generation of Parkers and/or Harts is doing the Wizard of Id now? It’s up there with “Article III judge” and “Washington Post op-ed columnist who doesn’t write about police misconduct.” So what Scott Adams has pulled off here is impressive in its own way:

MLive has zero tolerance for racism. And we certainly will not spend our money supporting purveyors of it.

Scott Adams, the increasingly controversial creator of the “Dilbert” comic strip, this week went on an unapologetically racist rant on a video broadcast. Because of that, we are dropping his strip in our eight newspapers and online, as soon as practically possible.

Because some newspaper comic sections are preprinted, readers may see “Dilbert” for a week or two. It will be removed from online viewing options as soon as we can work with our vendor to drop it. And, we will work quickly to find a replacement that will entertain you and not violate basic standards of decency and respect for others.

I will not characterize Adams’ racist views or even provide a link to the video. If you are curious enough to subject yourself to that garbage, I’m sure your search engine or social media will guide you to it. My advice: Save yourself the poison.

It’s been so long since Dilbert was funny or relevant you wonder if even hardcore MAGA types are really going to care as more and more papers run away.
