I dunno if Loomis has an obit prepared, but rest in peace Tim McCarver:

Tim McCarver, the All-Star catcher and Hall of Fame broadcaster who during 60 years in baseball won two World Series titles with the St. Louis Cardinals and had a long run as the one of the country’s most recognized, incisive and talkative television commentators, died Thursday. He was 81.

McCarver’s death was announced by baseball’s Hall of Fame, which said he died Thursday morning in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was with his family.

Twenty years, 1909 games (including 1307 as catcher), and 30 Wins Above Replacement that were largely accumulated in the middle eight years of his career. Surely an important player (and key contributor on two World Series champions) but I think the playing career is overshadowed by his work as a broadcaster. Not everyone was a fan but I enjoyed his commentary.
