This is why it’s both pointless and cruel for the Biden administration to try to remain “tough” on undocumented immigration:

If there’s one thing the national leaders of the Democratic party need to learn above all is that no matter what you do the right wing noise machine is going to claim that you’re building landing strips for gay Martians and running child sex slave rings (Nearly HALF of all Republicans believe or claim to believe the latter. Don’t know about the landing strips tbf).

In related news, hardcore Trumper Brett Favre stole millions of dollars intended for poor people because he had debts no honest man can pay:

“Hey brother, (we) owe 1.1m on Vball. Any chance you and Nancy can help?” Favre texted Davis, referencing Nancy New, the founder of a nonprofit organization, who has been indicted on embezzlement charges along with five others. “You and Nancy stuck your neck out for me and that’s going to turn out very good,” he wrote. It is alleged that Favre also received a Ford F-150 Raptor from Davis using misappropriated funds.

According to a report published on Mississippi Today, Favre received $5 million in grant funds designated for the state’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program in order to build a volleyball stadium at his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi.

In addition, Prevacus, a pharmaceutical company associated with Favre, allegedly received $2.5 million in stolen funds, with Favre allegedly collecting over $1 million. While Favre has paid back the remaining $600,000 to the state over the money he received, records show he still owes $228,000 in interest. Favre is also accused of convincing Prevacus owner Jake Vanlandingham to offer Gov. Bryant shares in Prevacus, but Bryant has denied ever considering accepting the offer. However, New is alleged to have given $2.15 million to Prevacus in exchange for stock shares.

Alleged texts from Favre also show him plotting to profit $20 million from a compounded pain cream that was the center of a $515 million health insurance fraud scheme that ultimately led to 20 convictions in Mississippi. However, Favre was not charged in that scandal and has yet to be formally arrested or charged with any crime.

Well of course he hasn’t. These investigations take time.

Meanwhile, the University of Colorado regents just announced that they’re naming the interim president to the permanent job, even though he signed a contract last summer, when he replaced the right wing hack politician who the regents fired and then paid $1.3 million as a lovely parting gift, that stipulated he wouldn’t be a candidate for the permanent job.

Our soon to be new president has a BA from the University of Colorado, isn’t a politician — in recent years CU has named politicians as the university’s presidents rather than academics because they Know How To Get Things Done, so we haven’t had an academic as president since 2005 — and has never had an academic position of any kind. He’s a career budget administrator, first in the state government, and at CU for the last decade. So this is the ultimate apotheosis of the pure non-academic academic administrator as head of a major academic research institution.

Also too, there were ten finalists for the job — seven women, two people of color — I think these two were men — and, um, one white guy. So it was by far the most Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive presidential search ever, as we have just been reminded by the regents. Isn’t that great?

Guess who got the job, despite not being what you might describe as — what’s that word that always comes up when somebody other than a white man is being considered for an important gig? — oh yeah, right, “qualified?”

. . . If you’re not going to choose an actual academic to run an academic institution, you could at least pick someone like this.
