This photo essay of hunger in New York is a powerful document to what this all has really meant for the poor. I may not be living my best life right now and sure, it sucks. But for millions of Americans, this has tipped the balance off of barely making it and squarely onto homelessness and missing meals. And after Republicans make sure that unemployed workers don’t get that extra paycheck come later this month, it’s going to get a whole lot worse. For Republicans who want to discipline workers and recreate the Gilded Age, this is an outright positive.
