Star Wars Open Thread: The Lovers

This is a thread for general, non-spoilery discussion of Star Wars. I’ll be seeing the Rise of Skywalker this afternoon, and of course have prepped by watching much of the rest of the franchise. My own ranking is as follows:

Note that the next film may shift the order up or down a bit by changing interpretations of the previous films. For example, my appreciation of Episode VI has definitely improved in light of the development of the Vader-Palpatine relationship in the prequel trilogy and in the new expanded universe.

With respect to the New Expanded Universe, I’ve watched almost all of the visual content, with the exception of the second season of Resistance. I’ve dabbled in the comic books and novels; the Vader series is justly lauded, and I very much enjoyed the Dooku: Jedi Lost audioplay. With respect to the animated (and non-animated) series, they all have their ups and downs except for Resistance, which seems uniformly terrible. For my part, I think that the best parts of the Clone Wars are exceedingly good, that there’s not much to Rebels, apart from a few solid episodes that still suffer from the unlikability of the main character, and that the Mandalorian has thus far been strong. I expect that folks will disagree. Here’s a list I’ve worked up of all of the eps that are either quite good or are consequential in terms of canon (these are listed in the chronological order established on the Star Wars website):
