We don’t know yet if or to what extent the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian ratfucking that has been clearly established. But we certainly know one prominent Republican public official who was an active conspirator:

Now seems like a good time to revisit how Republican leadership in Congress knew about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election in the summer and fall of that year. Specifically, the part about how intelligence officials briefed leadership about their knowledge of Russia’s efforts to help Donald Trump, and how Senate Leader Mitch McConnell actively suppressed that information before the election.

Mitch McConnell’s democracy-undermining constitutional hardball on behalf of an unpopular and substantively awful policy agenda is the story of American politics in the 21st century.

By the way, it seems to be that today’s news really does demand an explanation for why this story was published immediately after the Times ran 5 A1 stories in two days about the FBI finding some redundant and immaterial emails:
