The End of an Era
I will try to have more on this later, but it’s worth noting quickly the seeming end of Robert Mugabe’s reign in Zimbabwe. Obviously Mugabe was a complete disaster, as were all too many post-colonial leaders who centered power in themselves after evicting the colonial powers. But Mugabe and Raul Castro are also the very last of a generation who held such promise to liberate the world’s colonial peoples and the passage of that generation has a certain sadness to it, at least when considering the potential, if not the reality.
