Read of the day is John Sullivan’s piece on African-Americans leaving northern cities and moving to southern suburbs, which might sound like a return to southern roots except with middle-class money, but isn’t so happy.

I see an American urban future with a sort of 3 tiered class system, with central cities becoming increasingly gentrified, the suburbs increasingly poor (this would be a European model of city) and then an exurban wing of extreme wealth. Way oversimplified I know, but we do seem to be moving on a path suggesting some movement in this direction.
