Sweet fancy Moses, a film version of Atlas Shrugged? I dunno about you, but to me a film based on an interminable novel that consists almost entirely of position-paper wielding characters (and occasionally the narrator) expostulating a silly philosophical framework and its null-hypothesis strawmen ranks somewhere between “A new five-part George Lucas cycle based on vanity press Star Wars novelizations” and “Patch Adams 2” on my “films I’d like to see go into production” list. (A commenter at Volokh says that “It’s not such a terrible book if you skip the speeches.” I suppose that could be true, but I’m not sure a 3-page manuscript could be called a “novel.”)

The Variety article about the project contains something that is potentially more horrifying, however:

Oliver Stone was attached to direct a remake of “Fountainhead” for Warner Bros. and Paramount, but the project has languished in development. Along the way, Pitt expressed interest in playing Roark.

I guess some perverse interest could be derived from seeing if the unknowing self-parody standard established by King Vidor could be topped, but it’s probably better for all concerned if it keeps languishing…
