Split Infinitives
By Can anyone give me a good reason to not use split infinitives? I just don’t see any meaningful reason not to. Part of this is principle. I believe in an ever-evolving language and that rules of language tend to try to make language an unchanging thing. But even within the rules of language, I just don’t see why split infinitives are a bad thing. Do they make sentences sound bad? I don’t think so. Do they obscure the meaning of a sentence? Again, not that I can tell.
I am hardly a linguist, so I am very curious to know if anyone has a good explanation for this.
