From Kos, we learn that the trend here in Washington of the Democrats picking up seats in the state houses is happening around the country. It’s happy news, to be sure, but I can’t say I have any brilliant ideas as to why this is occurring. Perhaps there are less mechanisms for keeping the obviously loopy wingnuts under wraps at the local level? I’d be curious to hear some theories as to why this is the case.

And while I’m on the subject, congratulations to Derek Kilmer for apparently picking off incumbent Republican Lois McMahan, one of the more embarrassing rightwingers in state government. I passed up a chance to vote for Derek Kilmer when he ran for high school class president, and I’m delighted he wasn’t too discouraged.

In other local news, I thought Gregoire was going to pull comfortably ahead in the coming days, but I appear to have been wrong. This is rather nerve-wracking.
