“I’m just like that popular president”
By Bush, in response to the 9/11 commission report yesterday:
“Had we had any inkling whatsoever that terrorists were about to attack our country, we would have moved heaven and earth to protect America,” he said. “I’m confident President Clinton would have done the same thing. Any president would.”
To state the obvious, if Bush thought he were doing well at this point, he wouldn’t be rhetorically attaching himself to Clinton for any reason. Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but it seems like a bit of desperate move for someone who has ran away from the legacy of the Clinton administration.
