The New York Jets have received extremely rare positive attention for anything at all recently, when the team’s co-owner, Christopher Johnson, brother of Trumper and now ambassador to the UK Woody Johnson, said he would pay the fines Jets players receive for not standing for the flag. That’s all well and good, but as Jonathan Capehart points out, the Jets could do something real and actually sign Colin Kaepernick. That would actually make a difference. Moreover, while the Jets quarterback situation can’t be worse than it was last year, it’s hard not to see a potential place on the team for him. Sam Darnold I think is a complete failure of an NFL QB, or at least watching his very real issues in the Pac-12 last year suggests that is his future to me. But they will play him anyway. It is true that they have capable backups in Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown. But even signing Kap and bringing him for a tryout to see if he has anything left after a year off would surely not hurt the Jets one bit. Except of course, the racists would cry. Who knows, maybe Trump would even fire Woody from his cushy London gig!
