Obama Will Not Get A Replacement For Antonin Scalia Confirmed

Moderate GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK), one of the few Republicans initially willing to break ranks on whether President Obama’s nominee to succeed Antonin Scalia should be considered, reversed course Thursday evening. In a series of Tweets she said “the American people will be weighing in on the direction of SCOTUS” in the upcoming election and that Obama should “allow his successor to select the next Supreme Court justice.”
And again, note that the position Murkowski was walking back wasn’t even “we might confirm someone” but “we could hold a hearing.” Senate Republicans are not going to confirm Obama’s pick, and if they even held hearings it would be a huge upset. Instead of imagining eleven-dimensional chess scenarios where Obama could get someone confirmed, I’d recommend focusing on something more plausible, like a BROKERED CONVENTION.
