I figure there is more than 0 interest in watching Michael Sam sack professional “bro” Johnny Manizel on loop.

Trying to figure out why Browns’ 64, who got beat on the play, wasn’t flagged for a late hit afterwards.

    • Maybe they figured his soon to be release from the team for letting Sam torch him was enough.

The “fall down on the player right after the play ends” is pretty common and doesn’t usually draw a flag unless it is very late, the player launches himself at the player on the ground, or it’s the QB getting hit.

      • CrunchyFrog

When the player is the ball carrier, yes, they do often allow a little extra hit afterwards. In this case if an OL falls on a defensive player while the play is active this is an illegal hold – you can’t stop a player from getting up and getting back into the play. If the play is over it’s a late hit. Either way it should be a flag.

Awesome! For some reason I though Sam was an O-Lineman.

  • Where’s Sam doing the money fingers?

  • cpinva

ok, that was fun. and really, he didn’t even take him down particularly hard.

I’m done with football, but that made my day.

    Has hockey started yet?

Clearly, gay groundbreaker >> famous party bro guy. Sure, it’s just one play, but have you ever seen Manziel sack anyone? Or Sam get sacked? I rest my case.

  • Clearly the assholes were right, he is a distraction. Just not to his own team.

You think about the amazing preparation that went in to deciding how to integrate baseball, Rickey’s work with Robinson before he was called up, how he was specifically chosen to be the guy to do it, and compare Sam deciding on his own, with no real institutional support within the sport, to be the first openly gay athlete in a pro sport, the most macho of them, and you can’t help but really admire the guy and wish him well.

Unless, of course, you’re an asshole.

I agree completely, except to nitpick that Jason Collins is the first openly gay athlete in a major-league American team sport. Sam is the first to be openly gay for his entire professional career, and everything else you said is true; don’t want to take anything away from him.

Johnny Manziel may be a “professional bro”, but from what I can tell, his comments about and treatment of Michael Sam are unobjectionable:

“He’s a talented kid,” Sam said. “He isn’t called Johnny Football for nothing. It was fun getting to play against Manziel in an NFL game. I sacked him as both a junior and senior at Missouri.”

Sam and Manziel also briefly met prior Saturday night’s game. Manziel said he was impressed with Sam’s performance during the contest.

“The guy goes through a lot of stuff, so he gets heckled by everybody I’m sure, so he came up to me and said hello,” Manziel said of the pregame meeting. “It was a brief interaction. I thought he played pretty well.”

I don’t get people being bothered by Manziel, really. Seems like a perfectly decent dude from my perspective. Then again, I don’t get bothered by people enjoying life and having fun being a professional athlete either.

I think it’s just Tebow withdrawal.

    • If you are complaining about sports posts on LGM, you are barking up the wrong tree.

      • MikeJake

        This isn’t a sports post, it’s a TMZ post.

        • You already know how much I care whether you or anyone else likes the posts or not. I hope you hate it. The more you complain, the more of these I will do.

          • MikeJake

            I do hate it!

            More please.

The tedious thing here is the inside baseball, not the actual baseball.

Though, speaking of ESPN, I made the mistake of reading the comments on this story. There’s one with a billion likes complaining that Sam got away with making fun of Manziel’s gesture, but the PC police would have been punished Manziel severely for making fun of Sam’s sexuality, and that would have been, you know, exactly the same thing.

Always irrelevant among “the salt of the earth,” though.
