Don’t blame JD, he didn’t do it

JD Vance continues to try to use the media to set up the ridiculous fiction that MAGA is “anti-war” in case he’s the nominee in 2028:

As I’ve said before, from time his atrocious book came out, the political press has continued to make the mistake of assuming that an ambitious, cynical liar must be telling the truth when he’s pandering to them specifically. But just because Vance sounded more reasonable when he was angling to join the roster of the NYT opinion page than when he’s angling to become Donald Trump’s skin oranger doesn’t mean that the former Vance is the “real” one. At some point the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
In addition to this, let’s say arguendo that Vance opposed the war in theory. So what? What’s it worth? Nothing. He wasn’t able to influence Trump not do it and despite being delegated much of the negotiating responsibility he’s done nothing to end it, and is currently reduced to ridiculous claims that it’s not a war at all. And if I may be be permitted to state the obvious, if Kamala Harris had tried to strongly distance himself from Biden’s Gaza policy — and I think there’s good reason to believe she was more dovish — she would be portrayed as an ineffectual backstabber, not a Lone Voice of Reason. Vance owns this war as much as anybody no matter how many of these stories come out.
