Late last year friend-of-the-blog Matt Duss contacted myself and a number of other writers with an opportunity; contribute to an edited volume charting a path for the future of progressive foreign policy. While there is plenty of good work on foreign policy in progressive circles, there are still incidents that spark dismay, and this volume was intended both to present a picture of where we are now and to signal where we might be going. I am pleased to announce that the project now has a name, a cover, a publication date, and an early order link.

My contribution to this project was the chapter on space policy, written with Nola Haynes. Our three big thoughts:

• Will the space commons be managed through a collaborative system of rules, or will the basic norms of space management become a site of hegemonic conflict between the United States, China, and others? How can US foreign policy push in the direction of the former rather than the latter?
• Will the critical decisions about the use of space be taken by governments accountable to their citizens, or will those decisions be made by oligarchs and private firms accountable only to their shareholders? How can US regulatory policy push in the direction of the former rather than the latter?
• Will civilian needs and aspirations drive investment and exploration in space, or will military requirements take precedence? How can the institutions of US space policy be designed to push in the direction of the former rather than the latter?

There are 18 substantive chapters, with one third focused on geographic spaces and the other two thirds on areas of policy interest. It’s been great fun working with this team over the past year and I’m happy to see this finally reach the light of day.
