A US government map of Africa mislabeled every country during a state department presentation at a ⁠global conference in Brazil ⁠this week, ​causing a stir among attenders who took screenshots and posted them online.

Reuters viewed a video of the presentation given at the Aids 2026 conference in ⁠Rio de Janeiro, which shows the errant map displayed halfway during a presentation about the state department’s new health agreements.

A Reuters analysis found the image of the map included ⁠in the presentation contained an artificial intelligence watermark that signals it was made with OpenAI tools. The company did ​not respond to a request for comment.

The state ‌department said it took “full responsibility” ‌for the confusion caused and that the map had been produced by a team member who hastily changed ‌the slide deck before the event.

Oh so much for me here. Not giving a shit about Africa. Using AI. AI being fucking useless. AI being racist. Technology being inherently racist when it is made by racist people. The American government being run by idiots who just don’t care. Our elites basically laughing at dead Africans, dead AIDS victims, and dead AIDS victims from Africa especially. Americans never even having heard of most of the countries. Americans being the most clueless, insular, least curious people in the developed world and electing our leaders not in spite of that but because of it. Ah, just shoot it into my veins.

Apparently this map was generated with the “help” of Open AI, which is a revolutionary technology that will revolutionaize revolutions and give us automated luxury space communism, although exactly when remains unclear (I’ve heard the next six months will be crucial).

I’ve seen some commentary suggesting this is all actually just trolling the libs, but Trump’s Razor suggests stupidity, laziness, and ignorance — the three horseman of the Moron Apocalypse — are far more likely candidates than conscious malevolence, despite the surfeit of the latter.
