Of course there is a back story. It could be a very long story, including a lot of speculation about cat psychology, but I will spare you that!

The short version is that Ric, Zooey, and I greatly enjoyed walks in the Santa Fe back yard for years. We had gotten to a point where I knew what they were likely to do and therefore just let them run, dragging the leash, which helped me regain control if I had to. The leash on the silent auction won’t work that way – you need a soft leash that just slides along.

But one day when I was out with Ric, we met a bobcat. All of us survived unscathed physically, but mental harm was done. It was not possible to enjoy the yard the way we had, for me as much as the cats. Ric’s death was an eventual indirect outcome.

When we got to Oregon, I thought that we might try it again and bought the harnesses (Kitty Holsters) and leash now being auctioned. The first issue was accustoming Luca and Jose to the harnesses. Luca was in constant contortion until he managed to rip off the tiger vest. I never got close enough to Jose to put the bandanna vest on him.

Zooey wore his royal purple outside twice. The second time, he got frightened, and I decided not to try further. It’s entirely possible that my apprehensions played into the cats’ reactions.

So here’s your opportunity! The harnesses are Kitty Holsters, which go for about $25 each, the leash for about $10. Zooey, Luca, and Jose feel it’s the least they can do for the website that has made them famous!
