LGM Film Club, Part 429: The Nightmare Before Christmas

I hadn’t seen Tim Burton’s (I realize Henry Selick is the actual director) The Nightmare Before Christmas in many years. But a 14 hour flight from Singapore to Vancouver and a superb selection of films on Air Canada provided some opportunities. Like any other decent person, I always liked this film, but looking back on it, the sheer creativity and fun here is just so impressive. Everything about this film works–the songs, the animation, the juxtaposition of the two holidays, the greed and power hungry nature of Jack Skellington the Pumpkin King, Ken Page as the voice of Oogie Boogie. The best part is that Disney freaked the fuck out when they first saw the movie and figured it would be a disaster. Movie execs……….
On a terrible day in American history, one of so many terrible days recently, let’s think about something fun, one of the most fun movies I’ve ever seen.
