A stupid murderous nation

I haven’t seen it much noted that the rationale for continuing to blow up fishing boats putatively from Venezuela, which is now a practically daily occurrence — that murdering the people in these boats saves hundreds of thousands of American lives by keeping deadly drugs from entering the country — is completely farcical on its face.

Leave aside that drug interdiction doesn’t work at all, even when it’s attempted in a putatively rational manner. Even if that wasn’t the case, Venezuela is the source for practically no illegal drug smuggling into the US. All the cocaine smuggled into the US comes from Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia. Essentially all the heroin, fentanyl, and meth smuggled from Latin America comes from Mexico. Venezuela doesn’t have anything to do with any of this. This is just brown people who speak Spanish are all from the same vaguely imagined place South of the Border, just like all people who aren’t Christian or Jewish are Muslim, including Hindu Muslims, Sikh Muslims, etc.

This mind-boggling level of ignorance and indifference allows the Trump administration to attack a country it doesn’t like on the basis of completely imaginary premises. It would be like invading a country in the Middle East because of a mass terror event that originated in a completely different country, because both countries had a lot of Arabs in them.

We are a stupid murderous country run by stupid murderous people.
