Week 40

This is the week Donald Trump and contractors who were willing to be party to his vandalism destroyed the wing of the White House containing the First Lady’s office and the history attached to that office. The overall symbolism of large machines attacking the People’s House was appropriate, as was the emphasis on destroying women’s part in history.
Trump’s narcissism was badly damaged by 5-7 million people, frogs, and unicorns who demonstrated against him.
Trump and his people continued to kill people on boats in the Caribbean and extended the murder spree to the Pacific. A carrier group was sent in. It looks like Trump wants war with Venezuela and/or Colombia. Or maybe he just wants cool photos of blowing up boats for the evening news.
Having lived in New Mexico, I’ve often thought that the US should interact more with other nations in this hemisphere. Trump is sending $40 billion to Argentina to prop up his friend Javier Milei, in addition to starting a war. Argentina’s election is Sunday. None of this was what I was looking for in increased interactions.
The Argentina thing is damaging US farmers and ranchers. Argentina has taken over the Chinese soybean market that Trump’s tariffs ended, and Trump wants to import Argentine beef, hoof and mouth disease be damned. Good times.
News you can use
Jeff Merkeley (D – OR) spoke on the floor of the Senate for 22 hours. Not much covered.
Despite Trump’s efforts, solar generation is up.

Follow the court-watchers for the details of the lawsuits. Chris Geidner (LawDork, Bluesky), Roger Parloff (Lawfare, Bluesky), and the Just Security tracker.
As usual, keep it to things that have actually happened, not hypotheticals. What is actually happening is bad enough.
Caring for yourself and loved ones is resistance too. Post your pets.
