Diane Keaton has died. She was 79.
PEOPLE can confirm the legendary actress died in California. Further details are not available at this time, and her loved ones have asked for privacy, according to a family spokesperson.
Keaton rose to fame in the 1970s thanks to her role in The Godfather films and her collaborations with director Woody Allen. She won an Oscar for Best Actress for 1977’s Annie Hall. Her long career included movies like The First Wives Club, multiple collaborations with director Nancy Meyers and the Book Club franchise.
As with Redford and others of her generation there’s too much to engage with to come up with a satisfactory account of her career… for my part I was always a huge fan of her work in Reds and with Woody Allen. Her performance as Kay Adams Corleone is probably what she’s best known for, although oddly I think that the best part of that performance comes in the worst movie (Godfather III), when she’s finally allowed to push back hard against Pacino. I don’t normally say that seventy-nine is too young, but nonetheless I thought we’d have more time with her.
