Week 23

It has been A Week. Yesterday the transmission in my car gave up the ghost, and I am dealing with that today. Plus getting ready to move. I may be able to put up a reasonable week’s summary next week, but not for the two weeks after that. And after that, who knows, although I think I’ll get my computer set up reasonably quickly. It’s a new one, acquired this week, along with a new laptop. Thank you, Windows 11.
The kittens (whom you can see above are now yearlings and large; this is Luca) don’t realize the changes that are coming. They love the boxes. Zooey, however, knows that something is out of order bigtime and has been clingy.
I have good helpers for the move, and we have a plan. Although little surprises like grinding noises coming from the transmission were not included in the plan.
So I’ll ask you to list the things that happened this week. John Roberts ripped off his mask, and we now officially have a lawless Supreme Court, although I can’t say they didn’t warn us. Somebody from DHS (? Correction: HUD) wants to take over the NSF building and make a mansion for himself and his wife in the upper floors. There may be offices for those working for him in the lower floors. ICE continues to try to make Stephen Miller’s numbers. It’s worth recalling that Trump said he’d deport the criminals – murderers and rapists – but the four-year-olds with leukemia seem unlikely to be in that category.
This might not work for the Biden-haters, but it made me feel good to see a decent person behaving decently toward people killed by a regime supporter.
Follow the court-watchers for the details of the lawsuits, now up to 285, including 12 closed. Chris Geidner (LawDork, Bluesky), Roger Parloff (Lawfare, Bluesky), and the Just Security tracker.
As usual, keep it to things that have actually happened, not hypotheticals. What is actually happening is bad enough.
Caring for yourself and loved ones is resistance too. Post your pets.
185 more weeks to go. What are you doing?
