The Economic Populism of Josh Hawley, Economic Populist

“Mommy, I don’t think the Federal Wallet Inspector is Coming Back!”

Hawley talking about this like he’s not a United States senator with a critical vote (Thune wants Tillis to have a golden ticket so he had real leverage here) is just extremely Josh Hawley. As always, taking Hawley’s “economic populism” seriously isn’t like expecting Lucy to hold the football. It’s still running to kick it when Lucy drove away three hours ago. Anyway, one might take his vote for the largest upward distribution of wealth in American history, including savage cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, as a long overdue hint that he’s a smarmy bullshit artist who has always supported Ryanomics, only if you didn’t understand this already you’re never going to.
I swear this well-compensated reporter was floating the idea of Democrats recruiting Hawley earlier this month:

Way too many such cases. And to be fair at least Stein is admitting that he bought the Gateway Arch from the world’s most obvious con artist, rather than just ignoring it and then hyping Hawley’s paradigm-shattering populism the next time he introduces a bill with two co-sponsors expressing symbolic support for legislation he’s already voted against whenever it’s mattered.
