NBA Game 6 Thread

All year I’ve been remiss in doing NBA threads. At first it was because I was in Mexico but then, I don’t know, it was just because I’m lazy. In any case, tonight is quite possibly the end of the NBA season. I’ve enjoyed this OKC-Indiana series quite a bit. The Thunder are the better team, but it’s been a nice run for the Pacers and given the uncertainty in the East after Jayson Tatum got hurt and the Knicks decided to follow up on their best season in 25 years by firing their coach with no plan in place on replacing him (truly a peak Dolan move), it might as well be the Pacers again next year. Indiana could win tonight, but that probably requires Haliburton playing and being able to actually play effectively.

The Thunder meanwhile seem like a team of dynasty. They are better set up for a long-term run than other team since Golden State when they started with Curry and Klay and Draymond. They have SGA and Williams as their two dominant players, they are deep beyond belief, and they have a million draft picks that they can either leverage for pieces or to fill their roster when the cap requires them to let the mid-range players go. It’s amazing what they’ve done. And they were able to acquire Alex Caruso after last year’s playoffs for Josh Giddey and not even give up any of those picks to the Bulls! Amazing work by GM Sam Presti.

But a word here as well for the Pacers roster-building. The Pacers refused to do any of this tanking bullshit. They haven’t always been good but they have never been horrible for a number of years like so many teams, including my Portland Trail Blazers. Yes, OKC was able to make the tanking thing work and so has Houston. On the other hand, there’s the endless failure of Washington and Charlotte. It’s no guarantee. Indiana chose a different path, kept their fans engaged, and made superb roster decisions as well to get both Haliburton and Siakam.

So yeah, let’s watch some hoops!

If you want to talk about something else fun, feel free, but keep the goddamn politics out of it.
