It annoys me that it was Donald Trump who convinced Rob Manfred to end the lifetime suspensions of those believed to have gambled on the game. But it’s the right call. I always thought it was dumb to ban Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson from the game after their deaths. I highly doubt that either make the Hall of Fame, for that would then focus attention on the even more egregious and ridiculous blocking of Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Alex Rodriguez. HOF voters sure like to be moral prigs while making sure that Harold Baines and Dave Parker and Jack Morris are inducted for some reason. Still, it’s a good step.
