There is no plan

A friend of mine who is high up in the finance world passed this on this morning:
I heard a guy over dinner repeat the same thing that one of my analysts said as well. There is a real plan in place with the tariffs
Crash the economy, tariffs will end up being deflationary, and get bond yields down so the US can refi at lower rates on the long end of the yield curve. And this will all be done before the mid-terms next year. Oh, and this is Bessent’s master plan.
My friend thinks this is all completely absurd, which it is, but this kind of rationalization, which you can find variations on everywhere in the legacy media as they desperately continue to try to report on what’s happening in this country as just another Normal Story, inspired some thoughts:
THERE IS NO FUCKING PLAN
This is Donald Trump we’re talking about. He’s far stupider and lazier than you can possibly imagine. His interests are golf, fucking whores, humiliating his most obsequious supporters, and revenging himself against anyone who has ever insulted him. That’s it. There’s isn’t any other there there.
He’s a demented grandpa whose already tenuous grip on reality is loosening further as he ages, which is quickly. The fascist scum around him have all sorts of master plans for the master race but Trump himself doesn’t care about any of that stuff. I mean I doubt he’s ever read an actual book in his life, given that he’s at best semi-literate and is an ADHD train wreck hopped up on Adderall and who knows what else.
Our narcotized moron electorate decided to vote for him because they’re narcotized morons scrolling TikTok and DraftKings and OnlyFans, who know as much about politics as I know about high energy physics, which is nothing.
People keep trying to drop various rational explanatory frames onto this outburst of completely irrational cultural and political insanity, but those explanations end up just being part of the insanity, because rationalizations of the irrational are themselves irrational.
We are fucked, it’s going to hurt, and any useful resistance starts by looking this complete national breakdown of all moral and intellectual standards in the face, instead of writing another reactionary centrist NYT op-ed about how Trump’s message resonates with some genuine anxieties produced by real social problems which both parties blah blah fucking blah.
There is no message. There is no third planet to beam the crew down to. There is only the nihilistic insanity of Trumpism, which has to be destroyed by a TOTAL opposition, which can’t even begin until people stop lying to themselves about what he is and what all this is.
Practical suggestion: Get a Democratic party leadership that isn’t in denial about what is happening in this country. There are plenty of such people in the party, including in Congress. Cory Booker gets it. AOC gets it. If they lead, the people will follow.
Donald Trump and everything he stands for must be destroyed. Let his memory be a curse.
