As we’ve discussed, a critical factor in Trump increasing his support among the financial class and formerly skeptical Republican influencers is that Trump’s first cabinet had some normie Republicans who could stop the craziest stuff from being implemented. But even if you claim you can ignore Trump repeatedly saying that he would impose broad across-the-board tariffs because politicians lie and Trump lies more than anyone, it was very, very clear that being a normie Republican would be a dealbreaker for being part of the second Trump administration (unless, like Marco Rubio, you were prepared to be 100% MAGA.) If you were voting for Trump, you were voting for this and you’re 100% responsible for it.
