Why I Think There Will Be Less Trouble After A Harris Win Than Is Being Anticipated
Yes, Donald Trump will claim he won. BFD. We know this already. It’s priced in.
How many battalions does he have?
The 51st Keyboarder Division can be counted on to keep their butts in place in front of their computers unless they lie on the couch to take a nap. The Proud Boys and other groups that participated in January 6 have been decapitated and their leaders are in prison. They may have been reconstituted, but I don’t see evidence of it. There is no evidence of a national network of these organizations.
On the legal side, he seems to have a few people like Cleta Mitchell doing something. But the federal and state governments, along with the Harris campaign, are all preparing for that. Additionally, his legal braintrust from the last time around is disbarred or in jail. Rudy Giuliani had a virtual court appearance this past week in which the judge muted him because of his raving. Trump’s current lawyers are depending on his winning and pardoning them. Four Trump supporters have been arrested for false ballots.
If the Democrats take the House, whatever little secret Mike Johnson and Donald Trump share will become irrelevant. Kamala Harris is the Vice President who will preside over the January 6 session. The President will not be on the Ellipse, egging the insurrectionists on. Nor does Trump have control of law enforcement and military personnel. Some other what-ifs are dealt with here.
For that matter, Harris exorcised Trump’s malevolent use of the Ellipse, with 75,000 of her supporters helping her. The symbolism of Trump urging on a diminished force from a different venue is much weaker than what he did in 2021.
A loss will also weaken him. He is running through his and the Republican Party’s funds, although some of those billionaires supporting him might be willing to come through for one last push. He is scheduled to be sentenced later in November.
There will be random violence. Two ballot collection boxes have been set on fire. A woman stripped her Trump t-shirt off at a polling place in a fit of pique when she was told that the shirt constituted forbidden electioneering. Law enforcement organizations are preparing and so far have acted against disruptors.
It’s good to prepare for the worst; I am not criticizing any of the preparations. In fact, the preparations themselves are deterrents, along with today’s reminder that New York State suspends the law license of those convicted of serious crimes in other states, in particular, Kenneth Chesebro’s conviction in Georgia.
There will be troublesome Trumpies at voting stations and some fuckery about ballots. Trump will wheeze and grunt about “unfair.” The media will eventually tire of it. A few of the Trump supporters with too many guns will do something. But none of it will make Trump President. Only bad judgment on the part of the voters will do that.
