The real if no longer young Americans

These paranoid stylings from Mike Johnson (h/t commenter Max Daru) drive home a fairly subtle but ultimately unmistakable message:

Imagine a parallel post from a leader of the Democratic party, about the election of MINI TRUMPS popping up all around the country, and how that’s a dangerous thing and not a joke. OK easy enough to do . . . Let’s go to the next line in the bearded Spock parallel universe:

We are in a fight RIGHT NOW to save the Republic . . . All right, fine . . . but now:

And EVERY AMERICAN needs to take this seriously.

Whoops! It doesn’t work at all, does it? And why not? Because, comrades, the opponents of Trumpism, with really no notable exceptions, realize that the tens of millions of authoritarians, Christian nationalists, and straight up fascists in our midst are also Americans! And it would be nonsensical to ask those people to take their own existence seriously, because we very much realize that they do. Asking “every American” to take the fight AGAINST Trumpism would be the purest form of denial, given that so many Americans are wildly enthusiastic cultists, along with lots of fellow travelers, perpetually confused Ariana Grande voters etc.

So why doesn’t Mike Johnson have the same problem? Because opponents of radically reactionary revanchist ethno-nationalism, and its unquestionable leaders Donald Trump and Confederate Jesus, ARE NOT REALLY AMERICANS.
