There’s been a request for a thread on the death by suicide of Grayson Murray, a 30-year-old PGA Tour golfer.

Murray had had an up and down career as such things are measured. Keep in mind anyone on the PGA tour is probably among the best 200 or so golfers in the world at that moment. (As David Foster Wallace once wrote in an essay about professional tennis, try imagine being one of the best 200 people in the world at anything. It’s hard). Murray, who won a tournament in January, was currently ranked #58 in the world, and had won more than six million dollars in official purses, even though he had fallen down into the minor leagues for several years after a spectacular start at the age of 22, while battling anxiety, alcoholism, and depression. (He had apparently stopped drinking, which he credited for his recent career upswing).
