Gun fetishism, airport edition

I just had to take my shoes off to go through airport security for the millionth time in the 22 years since some deranged loser tried to stick some matches and a pseudo-explosive in his shoes.

Meanwhile:

– Officers with the Transportation Security Administration confiscated more than 1,500 guns at airport security checkpoints in the United States during the first quarter of the year, more than 93% of which were loaded.

The 1,508 firearms equate to an average of 16.8 intercepted each day during the first three months of the year, the TSA said Thursday.

Seriously, how does this happen? Let’s see, I’ve got my phone charger, the extra pair of argyle socks, the Grisham novel, the loaded Glock, the Level 17 sunscreen . . . I realize people are strange, but 17 PEOPLE A DAY in this country are tossing a gun into their baggage when they head to the airport! An almost always loaded gun! That we know of! (I assume some are getting through the security screening process).

What is it with Americans and their gun fetishism?

I’m not going to ever read this story, because just the headline fills me with bottomless rage.
