Lance Reddick
This is a gut punch.
RIP Lieutenant Daniels. Reddick’s most memorable work is of course in The Wire, where he was one of several actors to offer indelible, irreplaceable performances in the great ensemble entry of the Golden Age of American Television. The rest of his body of work is good but I don’t feel that it sufficiently challenged his enormous gifts as a performer. Reddick lent instant gravity and authenticity to any scene he appeared in, even in very small roles. It’s obviously to David Simon’s credit that he recognized this and put Reddick into a position where he could immediately convince the audience of the potential lethality of the team, especially in a series where (as usual) the criminals threatened to outshine the cops.
He will be deeply missed.
