Every year around my birthday, I watch a big set of my very favorite movies, you know, the ones you can just turn on over and over again and they make you happy. So I started last night with Apocalypse Now. So much has been said and written about what is basically a perfect movie that had no business being even remotely good.

Thus, I will only say one thing and leave it to comments. Has any truly terrible song by a truly terrible band been used in a completely non-ironic way by a director to such amazing effectiveness as Coppola used “The End” here? It really works here even if The Doors are one of the all time terrible bands.

Also, the only thing I’ll say about the Redux is that it is the greatest existing examples of why we need editors.
